October Moon
(Gail Wade)
January 01, 2011
In reflecting back, this song became very much a part of my healing process after losing both my parents a year apart. Four years in the making, it still cuts close to the bone.

October Moon, saving grace, remember this place
Papered walls, dusty halls, time won’t erase
The memories here in my heart,
Here in my heart
I sit here in your room, by the light of the moon
Throwing shadows on the wall, they don’t help me at all
Still I feel you all around me
Whisper to me
Mourning doves and garden gloves, rusty tools in the shed
The climbin’ tree, your love for me
Nothing more needs to be said
Blossoms in the spring, red birds on the wing
Dogwood in the yard
Yes, all of these things
Keep you close to me
Close to me
Friends come to help me load the boxes in the car
All treasures packed, don’t look back
Just one more stroll around the yard
October Moon, saving grace, remember this place
Papered walls, dusty halls, a mother’s warm embrace
Turn the key, don’t look back
Turn the key, don’t look back
Don’t look back
Rita's Dance
This tune began as a clawhammer banjo piece and somehow evolved into a guitar instrumental.
Mom, (Rita Mohan) being of Irish heritage, had always wanted me to write a Celtic tune. I always envision her dancing on the moors when I play this.

I Like A Train
January 01, 2011
Gail Wade and Brooks Williams
Just a fun tune co-written with my friend Brooks Williams while attending The Swannanoa Gathering in North Carolina.
This song took first place at Connecticut's first Annual Podunk Bluegrass Festival Songwriters Contest in 2010.
I like a train, rollin’ along, I like the way she winds and rolls
I like her pullin’, tuggin’ howlin’ and a-chuggin’
Pullin on down the line
Like a steel guitar, she softly whines she’ll sing her way through
the coal black night, she’s gone, baby she’s gone
Get on board, take me away
Pack my bags, I’m gonna leave today
I’ll feel her pullin’, tuggin’ howlin and a chuggin’
Makin’ my way to you , yah to you
In my dreams the clickety clack
Too late now no turnin’ back
I’m gone, baby I’m gone
Conductor calls, yeah it’s time to go
Don’t look back, don’t ya be movin slow
I feel her engine burnin’, her wheels start to turnin’
Baby, I’m on my way, yah I’m on my way
Gonna leave these small town blues behind
I’ll be halfway there b‘fore the mornin’ light
Bye-bye, baby bye- bye
I like a train, yah I like a train
I like a train, Lord knows I like a train
Wash Me Down

Wash Me Down
Come on and take me to the river
Slowly wash my body down
Take my pony from my hands
Lay me gently on the ground
As a boy I rode these hills
Sunlight streamin’ on my face
The smell of horses' sweat and leather
A boyish smile upon my face
Oh but time has a way of takin’ hold
And it chills my poor body to the bone
Had me a gal back in Utah
We settled down for a while
It seems my life it did not suit her
Lord I still can see her smile
Her quilts were warm and soft as rainfall
gently layin' on the ground
Now her face is just a memory
I just can't seem to settle down
My hands are hard and calloused from workin’ all my days
With not much left to show for it
just these lines upon my face
So take my saddle from his back
Let loose of both these reins
He’s healed my heart and filled my soul
Turn him loose upon these plains
For we will meet again in springtime
over on the other side
Just a young horse and his boy
And together we will ride
Now time has a way of takin’ hold
And it chills my old body to the bone
So take me down to the river
slowly wash my body down
Take my pony from my hands
Lay me gently on the ground
Take this pony from my hands
Lay me gently on the ground
Try It On For Size

Take these blues
Take ‘em off my mind
You let someone else have’em
Try ‘em on for size
Because they’re hurtin’ me
Squeezing the life right out of me
Take ‘em off my mind
When night comes callin’
I see your sweet face
No amount of cryin’
Could ever erase
This strong desire
Oh this burnin’ fire
In my heart for you
So as you go
Along your way
Take my heart with you baby
Put it in a safe keepin’ place
And when your lonely
You’ve lost your one and only
You can try it on for size
Harder Every Day

Don’t let our love slip away
Lord knows I’m tryin’ harder and harder every day
To let the past fade away
But it’s getting so much harder every day.
Well I know that I can’t give you what you need
And there are days I am so very hard to please.
But we’ve known love
Held it in our hands.
Now it flows right through our fingers like grains of sand.
So don’t let our love slip away
Lord knows I’m tryin’ harder and harder every day
To let the past fade away
But it’s gettin’ so much harder every day
So if you must leave me now, oh I’ll let go
But there’s just one more thing you need to know
The times we’ve shared will never die
Oh they’ll live within our hearts untill the end of time.
So don’t let our love slip away
Lord knows I’m trying harder and harder every day
To let the past fade away
But it’s getting’ so much harder every day
Lord knows it’s getting so much harder every day.
